Built up in plaster and worked over many times. Praying Mantra rises as a single upright form, its ridges catching light and throwing shadow, changing as the day moves around it. The piece carries two meanings at once. The folded, watchful stance of the mantis and then there is the mantra, the same gesture made again and again until it turns into something that holds.
It is a piece about repetition and patience, about the slow work of retuning to something until it finally becomes itself.
